Stroudwater Navigation Boating Information

British Waterways has withdrawn from the Cotswold Canals Partnership and in doing so have put £30m of funding for the restoration project at risk. The Stroudwater Navigation is currently still leased to British Waterways and a license from them is still needed to use it. It is likely that responsibility for the canal and the navigation authority from whom a license is required will change during 2008 or possibly 2009.

Special Notices:

The canal is in a far poorer state than when it was managed by the Cotswold Canals Trust prior to British Waterway's taking over the canal in 2005 and obstructions like fallen trees are often left blocking the canal for long periods.  Craft still need to be licensed with British Waterways.

Bonds Mill Bridge cannot currently be lifted for navigation pending a new deck and upgrade – timescale t.b.a.

Please replace the stop plank at the head of the slipway after use.

Navigation Status:

The Stroudwater Navigation came under the control of British Waterways in April 2005 and they are still currently the licensing authority.

British Waterways can be contacted on 01452 318000 (Gloucester Office)

Unpowered craft should be able to navigate from Pike Lock to Ryeford Double Lock with some portaging. Follow Guide to Navigation link for other sections available.
